the gathering
Each volunteer day kicks off with a cup of tea or coffee and a catch-up — Gary makes sure priorities are in order! A camping table is set up, in this case overlooking the beautiful Mothecombe Bay, and out come two enormous hot water canisters, a variety of teas, and fair-trade fresh coffee. Soon everyone is pouring, sharing, and enjoying a drink, not to mention the cake and biscuits. Even the typical British drizzle can’t dampen the spirits. Conversations flow, stories from the week are shared, and friendly banter sparks plenty of laughter.

the work
Once the mugs are packed away, the real work begins. Jo from Orchard Farm has asked for the team’s help to gather wildflower seeds, plant willow whips, and restore ponds. Armed with gloves and tools, the volunteers divide into groups, chatting as they go. It’s heartwarming to see such an eclectic mix of people come together — proof that real connection can be found in muddy boots, gardening gloves, and a shared mug of something warm.
